London South Bank University (LSBU), a public institution located in Elephant and Castle, London, operates within the London Borough of Southwark, near the scenic South Bank of the River Thames, which lends its name to the university. Originally established in 1892 as the Borough Polytechnic Institute, it attained university status in 1992 following the enactment of the Further and Higher Education Act 1992.
In September 2003, the university underwent a name transformation, becoming London South Bank University (LSBU).
